My Story…
Hi everyone! I was diagnosed with chronic migraine in 2014 and went through a few years of trial and error with every known oral medication available at the time. Eventually I was approved for Botox injections (facial, scalp, and neck) for migraine prevention, and it has made my life so much better.
The headache clinic in the neurology department at UT Southwestern in Dallas has been outstanding. My neurologist and her team are excellent and provide the best care I could ask for in managing, preventing, and treating migraine.
Migraine is a neurological disorder characterized by, but definitely not limited to, extreme headaches. Prevalence is hard to determine, but studies show around 25% of people suffer from occasional migraines, with women experiencing them 3x as often (hormonal triggers are very common).
Migraine research has also been notoriously underfunded (perhaps because it’s considered a “women’s issue”?). However in recent years we've seen breakthroughs in research, new classes of drugs, and treatment options thanks in part to grassroots orgs like Miles for Migraine.
